Wonder League Robotics Club @ CKC (Homeschool)
September 29 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT
An event every week that begins at 10:00am on Friday, repeating until October 13, 2017
Code for gold in this year’s Wonder League Robotics Competition! The competition is open to kids in grades 1 through 6, and so is this class. Your mission is to save the environment with your handy robot sidekicks, Dash and Dot. Are you up for the challenge? No experience required! This is a national competition, with thousands of competitors.
We will put the kids into teams of no more than 3, each with a set of robots, accessories, and a tablet. The kids will spend a few weeks learning how to use the robots, and then will work their way through 3 missions. All missions must be completed entirely by the kids; instructors are available to teach the kids the software, and troubleshoot the equipment, but they are not allowed to help the kids with solutions for the missions.
Missions will be released on September 18, October 30, and January 1. Solutions can be completed at any time after the missions are released, but all solutions must be completed by mid-February. After that, teams might be invited to participate in a 4th mission, which would start March 5 and end in mid-April. If any of our teams are invited to that round, the kids will have time in our March and April sessions to work on their solutions. Any teams that are not invited to that round will be provided with additional non-competition challenges, so they can continue to learn with the robots.
This club meets on Fridays, 10am-12pm, September 22-April 27 (no meetings 10/20, 11/24, 12/8, 12/22, 12/29, 1/5, 3/30) for a total of 25 weeks of meetings.
You can sign up for the club through November. The cost will go down $16 per week. We might also have drop-in available, for kids who want to try a session before committing to the entire series.
Important: In addition to the cost of the class, we might have a modest materials fee, to help offset the cost of materials that will be used during the competition, or we will ask for parents to donate or bring the materials. For the 2015 & 2016 competitions, the materials included items such as a plastic cups, ping pong balls, and LEGOs. We won’t know what the materials are until closer to the competition, and will let everyone know as soon as that info is released.
