Spring Break STEAM Explorers Camp – 2017

AACPS is closed for the week, but we will be open! Let your kids join us for a day, or more, of fun at Coder Kids Club. This year’s spring break theme will be: STEAM Explorers. Over the course of the week, kids will have an opportunity to:

  • Play with polymers, by creating several types of slime
  • Program robots
  • Design and print 3D structures
  • Learn about chemical reactions through a variety of (safe, fun, and sometimes gross) activities
  • Plan and build gizmos and gadgets with Snap Circuits and littleBits
  • Compete in Minecraft and LEGO build challenges
  • Create pixel art with a variety of media
  • Plan and record a stop-motion animation

This camp is appropriate for kids in grades K through 7.

Important: Camp is held from 9am-4pm each day. Food is not provided at camps, so please make sure your child has lunch, snacks, and drinks for the day.

Before and after care are available for this camp. You will receive an email with a link to sign up for it after your camp registration is complete, or you can just go to the sign-up form at your leisure.

School is Out Mini-Camp

AACPS is closed for the day, and by popular demand, we will be open! Let your kids join us for a day, or more, of Minecraft & More. Some of the activities we’ve done at past camps include:

  • Explore the solar system, without leaving Minecraft
  • Design structures in Minecraft, and then printing them on our 3D printer
  • Create SLIME, which isn’t exactly like the cubed slime in Minecraft, but it’s still fun

Plus, kids don’t have to just play Minecraft, or do Minecraft-themed activities! We can also do stuff like:

  • Play with Snap Circuits
  • Play any of the many other games (computer, console, tablet, board, card, etc…) we have available
  • Watch music videos and have a dance party

This camp is appropriate for kids in grades K through 7.

Important: Camp is held from 9am-4pm each day. We will add before (8-9am, $10) and/or after (4-6pm, $20) care if we have enough requests for it, so please let us know in the order notes if you need it. Food is not provided at camps, so please make sure your child has lunch, snacks, and drinks for the day.

Coder Kids Club is Hiring

We are hiring for the following part-time positions:

  • Instructor – Instructors do classroom setup/breakdown, lead groups through Coder Kids Club course materials, help with creating and revising materials, and supervise the children in their classes. They will also attend special events, to help promote the Coder Kids Club. Right now we are particularly in need of staff who can help at events, on evenings and weekends! Previous experience working with kids is required. Some previous topic-specific experience is also very helpful, but it’s not necessary for that experience to be from a professional setting. In other words, hobbyists are welcome! Multiple positions are available.
  • Assistant – Assistants help instructors manage classes and camps, help with setup/breakdown, and help kids with activities.
  • Intern – We have internships available to AACPS students. Please contact your advisor for more information. If you are not a student in AACPS, please have your advisor contact us, so we can get set up for your school system. You must be able to receive credit for our internship program to participate!
  • Volunteers – Coder Kids Club is in the process of becoming a nonprofit! Technically, this isn’t “hiring,” but we are always looking for volunteers to help with events. If you want to help spread STEAM to kids in the area, we would love some help.

All positions are part-time. Evening and weekend hours will be available throughout the year. Most daytime hours will be available during school breaks, including summer. Pay is commensurate with experience. Interns are not compensated, but do receive credit for school. Volunteers are also not compensated, but will be invited to special events for supporters, and will receive vouchers for classes. A background check is required for all employees and volunteers that are 18 or older.

Please use the form below to apply, and include a plain-text version of your resume.
